Habit Breaking in 4 Steps

Step 1 – Binge – This step is the easiest to do, but the hardest to move beyond.
Do as much of it as you can, overdo it, enjoy every minute of the experience while you’re in it, all the while making yourself aware that the experience is only temporary.

Step 2 – Do it one more time, but this time make the experience as terrible as you can.  Focus every one of your senses on something uncomfortable, become disgusted and hurt yourself deeply within the experience.  Focus intently on how long it takes for the experience to end, while forcing yourself through its entirety…dislike everything you can about it.

Step 3 – Recall only the experience of step 2.  Whatever took place before that moment exists only as an illusion within your mind.  Overlap any positive memory with the negative experience you created.

Step 4 – Do something different.  Whatever it was you were doing, do something else, anything else, but vary it enough from what it once was.
