When given the option, choose good. That's all it boils down to. You can argue with it, play games with how you define it, but we all know the experience of having the decisive moments arise, and in those moments choose to be good. Honestly though, choose whatever you want.
Sometimes the bad things unlock a greater good, and sometimes there aren't any good options to choose from. Just be aware of the consequences of your actions, and realize that whatever bad you cause others always returns as something bad done to you. So tread cautiously in your freedom, so as not to deprive the dignity and freedom of others.
